Strathmore Aquatic Centre Society Dissolves

On September 29th, at a formal meeting, the directors of the Aquatic Society decided to disband.   At the present time about $193,000 remains in an account that will be turned over to the Strathmore Lions Club.  It will set up a separate account devoted to helping with programs or infrastructure required at the pool.

Initially the Aquatic Society was an offshoot of the Strathmore Lions Club.  Its membership has been composed primarily of Lions members.  Anna Reinwald, Marilyn Rappel and Berneice Harwood were outside community volunteers. The Society assisted the Town of Strathmore when Phase # 1 was built.  Fundraising money has gone toward pool equipment such as baffles to reduce the sound, roll up window blinds, a hoist for handicapped and a climbing wall. During its existence the Aquatic Society earned about $300,000.00.

On June 3, 2009 the Town of Strathmore Council passed a resolution to complete the pool. The estimated cost for the final phases adds up to $3,122,000. This includes a children’s wading pool and a hot tub. In addition there will be a water slide and a viewing area above the Chuck Mercer Room and the Strathmore Agricultural Society offices within the Civic Center.  Tax deductible receipts are given by the Town when citizens make contributions toward the pool.  Your donations will be much appreciated.

Community Christmas Party

One of the major fundraisers for the Aquatic Society over the past eight years has been the Community Christmas Party.  The next one will be held on December 12th  at the Civic Centre.  The Strathmore Lions will be continuing this annual function. Tickets are available by phoning (403) 934-3056.

This festive evening has consisted of a four course meal, a bar, a D.J., dance, door prizes, numerous desserts, a chocolate fountain and a midnight lunch. The price for the evening is $35.00 per person.  Last year this event was sold out by mid October. Many businesses have come back year after year. A broad range of ages and interests have been evident.

By supporting the Strathmore Lions in various fundraising and service projects local citizens are making it possible for the Lions to help the community meet its greatest needs.
